This Privacy Policy explains how Any North ("the app") handles information when you use the app.
Any North is a compass and waypoint app built to work without accounts and without tracking you.
Summary (plain English)
- •No account required. We don't ask for your name, email, phone number, or a login.
- •No ads, no trackers, no analytics SDKs.
- •Your location is used to run the compass + waypoint direction/distance, and is not stored on our servers.
- •Waypoints you create are stored locally on your device so you can use them later.
Information the App Accesses
Depending on what features you use and what permissions you grant, the app may access:
1) Location (Foreground / "While Using the App")
If you allow it, we use your current location to:
- •Show your approximate city name (via your device's system services)
- •Calculate distance and direction to a selected waypoint
We do not use background location.
2) Device heading (Compass)
We use compass/heading readings to display the compass direction and orient the dial/needle.
3) Motion sensors (Accelerometer)
We use motion sensor readings for small visual tilt effects.
4) Waypoint data you create
Waypoints may include:
- •A name/label you enter
- •Coordinates (latitude/longitude) associated with the waypoint
What We Collect
We do not collect personal information such as:
- •Name
- •Email address
- •Phone number
- •Account identifiers
We do not collect:
- •Advertising identifiers
- •Analytics profiles
- •Browsing history
How We Use Information
We use the information above only to provide the app experience, such as:
- •Showing a compass heading
- •Showing direction and distance to a selected waypoint
- •Displaying your city name
- •Providing motion-based visual effects
We do not use your data for advertising, tracking, or profiling.
Data Storage & Retention
Location
- •Location is processed in real time on your device while the app is running.
- •We do not store your location on our servers.
- •We do not build a location history.
Waypoints
- •Waypoints you create are saved locally on your device.
- •Waypoints are not uploaded or synced to a cloud service (unless we clearly add an optional sync feature in the future).
- •You can delete waypoints within the app at any time.
- •Deleting the app removes locally stored waypoint data.
Compass and motion readings
Compass and motion readings are used transiently and are not stored or transmitted by us.
Sharing & Third-Party Services
- •We do not sell or rent your information.
- •We do not share your location or waypoint data with third parties for advertising or tracking.
- •We do not use third‑party analytics or ad SDKs.
System services (Apple/Google):
Some features (like city name display) may rely on your device's operating system services (for example, Apple or Google location-related services). Those services are provided by your device platform and are governed by their own policies.
Your Choices
- •You can use the app without granting location access, but some features (like city display and waypoint navigation) may not work.
- •You can change permissions anytime in your device settings.
- •You can delete your waypoints inside the app; deleting the app also removes local data.
Children's Privacy
Any North is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children. Since we don't require accounts and don't collect identifying information, we generally don't receive personal data to begin with.
Changes to This Policy
If we add optional features in the future that involve data syncing or new data use, we will update this policy and clearly explain what would change before you use those features.
